University of Technology and Arts of Byumba (TAB) is a fully accredited community-based university. Currently, UTAB runs three faculties fully accredited by HEC. These include the Faculty of Social Sciences, Management and Development Studies (SSMDS), the Faculty of Education, and the Faculty of Agriculture, Environmental Management and Renewable Energy (FAEMRE). In addition, UTAB has Distance and Open Learning facility (DOLF) located in Gatsibo District, Kiramuruzi Sector.

The decision of initiating a Distance and Open Learning Facility (DOLF) at Kiramuruzi in Gatsibo District was taken after realizing that there are many students who come far from the main campus especially from Eastern part of Rwanda. The Center has been helping students from Eastern Province to access quality higher education.

This year 2023, UTAB proudly managed to definitely acquire the land and premises of DOLF Kiramuruzi. With the aim of providing quality education and transform the Center in a state- of-the- art infrastructure, the University embarked on the renovation works which are now at the last stage. It is predicted that after the rehabilitation, it will be reopened as a Campus instead of a Distance and Open Learning Facility.

The renovation works are now on the last stage

It’s noteworthy to mention that though the rehabilitation works are ongoing, students have been temporarily relocated to main campus located in Gicumbi district, so as to avoid disruption of their studies.  Right after the renovation and accreditation of the Campus, students will benefit from improved quality services, thus improved quality of education. This is in line with the University’s vision of becoming a radiating University of academic and professional excellence for sustainable social-economic development.
