The Directorate of Research and Consultancy in the University of Technology and Arts of Byumba (UTAB) shapes to Rwandan quality research in the area of competitive technology developed on the world market by privileging study mentality, scientific invention and technology and by recommending participative approaches of all concerned with the questions of Community development.
It promotes fundamental scientific and applied Research to the basic fields aiming at promoting original solutions by scientific, technological approaches of production in the rural and urban areas. Amongst the mandate of the University of Technology and Arts of Byumba (UTAB) include the provision of quality higher education, carrying out research, and to transfer knowledge and technologies to the community. It is in this regards that the Directorate of Research in University of Technology and Arts of Byumba focus on the following research areas: Agriculture and livestock production, social economic empowerment of the community, gender equity and equality, youth and women, education, environment protection, renewable energy, gastronomy/food security, management and poverty reduction.
To carry out projects in above areas, UTAB has a strong capacity and experience in initiating and implementing collaborative and policy-related research projects and consultancy with local and international partners and has nurtured important linkages with many research institutions across the world. Results of research are published in UTAB scientific journal or in international journals
Duties & Responsibilities

- To promote the research culture in UTAB mobilizing students, academic staff and other UTAB stakeholders, in doing relevant research for the benefit of surrounding community, regional and international.
- To get informed and link up with national and international research bodies based on UTAB programs, mission and vision;
- To search for research grant opportunities and disseminate them to faculties.
- To make a follow up on research and consultancy related MoUs with partners for smooth implementation.
- To prepare the bids for research funding and tenders for consultancy.
- To organize and supervise/coordinate research and consultancy teams/activities.
- To organize conferences, seminars, colloquia and study trips for UTAB and/or partners.
- To disseminate and publish research findings in UTAB scientific journal in in international journals.
