University of Technology and Arts of Byumba - UTAB

UTAB is now an ICDL Africa Accredited Training Center

On 18th October 2023, The University of Technology and Arts of Byumba has been accredited as an ICDL Accredited Test Center. It was the ceremony that went with the awarding of its 11 staff who have completed ICDL training for two months.

Actually, ICDL Africa stands for the International Computer Driving License Certification in Africa. It is dedicated to raising digital competence standards in the workforce, education and society. Its programs enable individuals and organizations to assess, build and certify their competence in the use of computers and digital tools to the globally-recognized ICDL standard.

After realizing the importance of being an Accredited Training Center, UTAB has started the process of getting this accreditation. During this process 11 staff of UTAB has been trained for two months by ICDL Africa in Rwanda. They have gotten skills in 6 different modules of digitalization. They have been given certificates of completion and they are going to train other UTAB staff and students.

The Senior Trainer of ICDL Africa in Rwanda, Mr. Axel KAYONGA, has said that being an ICDL Accredited Training Center will help UTAB to benefit the ongoing innovation in certification program development and commitment to rigorous test design methodologies and quality assurance standards.

On behalf of The Vice Chancellor, The Deputy Vice Chancellor of Finance and Administration, Mrs. NYIRAHABINEZA Asterie, has thanked ICDL Africa for allowing UTAB to join the ICDL family. She also congratulated the trainees who got ICDL certificates. She requested them to train other UTAB staff, students and surrounding community in order to raise a digital literacy leading to the continuous improvement of the quality of Education in UTAB and around.

Implementing the ICDL program in higher learning institutions in Rwanda is one of the resolutions that have been taken in a meeting that Higher Education Council (HEC) in partnership with ICDL had had with Higher Institutions Leaders in March 2023 where the Director General of HEC has called upon all institutions to implement this program starting from this academic year of 2023-2024.
