Walk to remember by UTAB staff,guests and students
In the perspective of the 23rd commemoration of the Genocide against the Tutsi, on 17th June 2017, the University of Technology and Arts of Byumba (UTAB) held a ceremony to commemorate the people slain in the genocide against the Tutsi.
The ceremony begun with a walk to remember that departed from the premises of UTAB towards Byumba genocide memorial where different authorities, guests, students and staff paid tribute and laid flowers at the graves of the victims of the Genocide.
The Vice Chancellor of UTAB, Father Prof.Dr. NYOMBAYIRE Faustin welcomed all guests and UTAB community, who attended the event of genocide remembrance. He said that to remember is an occasion to look back in the past and to reflect on the ordeals endured by the Tutsi. He requested all participants especially the youth to be the good citizens and involving themselves in the fight against genocide ideology and denial under the national theme “Remember the Genocide against the Tutsi, Fight Genocide Ideology, Build on our progress”.
In his presentation, Dr.GASANABO Jean Damascene (Director General of Research and Documentation Center on Genocide of CNLG) focused on the preparation and execution of the genocide against the Tutsi; the role of bad governance in the genocide and the role of good governance in country’s reconstruction after the genocide and highlighted the characteristics of genocide ideology.
“The students representative under the umbrella of (AERG)“, the students association of the genocide” survivors in his remarks thanked the former RPA army that played a vital role to save them and their parents and thanked the government of Rwanda for the continuing support offered them in their day to day livelihood and ensuring that they are educated. Commemoration serves as a good time for all Rwandans and their friends to remember how their loved ones were dehumanized and killed.
The representative of the District Mr.Olivier MUNYURANGABO who was the guest of Honor thanked the UTAB community for preparing that event and he called upon all participants who are now present in UTAB to change the bad image of their country and to make the difference through obedience, respect and dignity to one another. “We have the obligation as today’s intellectuals to change the image of the Country through heroism and mutual respect said by Olivier MUNYURANGABO.
