From 14-16 October 2022, in Rubavu, at Maison Saint Benoît; a retreat of the UTAB Governing Body was organized with the aim of refining and reflecting on the UTAB Draft Strategic Plan 2022-2027. The retreat was extended to some Senior Staff of UTAB and Representatives of ADEB and UTAB Organisation.

The Retreat was graced by the presence of His Excellency NZAKAMWITA Servilien, Emeritus Bishop of Byumba Catholic Diocese, and Legal Representative of UTAB.

Taking into consideration the statement of the Legal Representative, the Chairperson of the Governing Body, Dr. NDAHAYO Fidele, and the VC UTAB, Fr. Dr. MUNANA Gilbert, O.P.; the Retreat defined strategic pillars/priorities for the Strategic Plan 2022-2027 as follows:

  • Teaching and learning,
  • Research and development,
  • leveraging technology and embracing innovation,
  • Institutional strengthening, and
  • Enabling infrastructure (hard).

In his closing remarks, Legal Representative Bishop NZAKAMWITA Servilien, thanked the Management of UTAB of their vision to advance UTAB to the next level. He exhorted them to promote the quality of education through recruiting, training and retaining motivated academic staff, invest more in the development of infrastructure as well as strengthening internal control mechanisms to ensure efficiency, effectiveness and sustainability of UTAB.  He also underlined his wish to see UTAB investing more in Research and Consultancy to ensure knowledge creation and contribution to the socio-economic transformation of Rwandans.
