Today on 19 June 2020, University of Technology and Arts of Byumba (UTAB) and Vision Agribusiness Farm (VAF) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for formal cooperation to enhance the quality of education and to promote sustainable agriculture and animal husbandry.
Vision Agribusiness Farm (VAF) is a company that was created in 2008 by Jean Claude
Shirimpumu. It was legally registered in Rwanda Development Board (RDB) on 6 th February
2014 under the article 16 of law no 27/04/2009. Its main purpose is to address critical needs from
livestock and crop production to contribute to food security. It is a recognized role model in
using readily available resources to reduce and eventually eradicate hunger and poverty in
Rwanda and in East African community. VAF has developed a model pig breeding farm and
owns wide plots for crops production in Kageyo Sector and in Bugesera District. Its head office
is located in Byumba town, Gicumbi district, Northern Province, and opens 6 days a week for
offering agricultural extension services and consultancy to agriculture and livestock businesses.
Below are the fields in which cooperation in will be based:
i. Collaboration in promoting quality education;
ii. Collaboration in industrial attachment of students and practical courses;
iii. Joint venture in farming, fishing and food value chain;
iv. Joint consultancy projects and provision of consultancy services (joint bids);
v. Joint applied research in farming, fishing and food technologies;
vi. Sharing facilities such as laboratories and libraries;
vii. Joint organization of career days;
viii. Exchange of scientific and educational literature produced by either party;
ix. Sharing information on business opportunities;
x. Organization of joint annual meetings as a tool to monitor and evaluate the implementation of MoU
