On 23 December 2025, the University of Technology and Arts of Byumba (UTAB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Airtel Rwanda, marking a significant milestone in strengthening collaboration between academia and the telecommunications industry.
This strategic partnership is designed to accelerate technological advancement at UTAB, with a strong focus on artificial intelligence (AI), internet connectivity, and modern telecommunication tools. Through this collaboration, UTAB and Airtel Rwanda commit to jointly supporting digital transformation initiatives that enhance teaching, learning, research, and institutional efficiency

Beyond technology, the MoU places strong emphasis on career guidance and student employability. Airtel Rwanda will support UTAB students through internship and industrial attachment opportunities, offering them practical exposure to real-world professional environments. This initiative is expected to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and industry demands, equipping graduates with relevant skills and experience for the competitive job market.
The partnership also promotes joint research and innovation, encouraging collaboration between UTAB academic staff and Airtel Rwanda professionals in areas aligned with national development priorities. In addition, both institutions will engage in community outreach initiatives, leveraging technology and knowledge to address societal challenges and contribute to sustainable community development.

This MoU reflects UTAB’s strong commitment to empowering students, staff, and management, fostering a culture of innovation, and building impactful partnerships that extend beyond the university. By working closely with a leading telecommunications company like Airtel Rwanda, UTAB continues to position itself as a forward-looking institution dedicated to practical education, technological excellence, and national transformation.
Ultimately, this collaboration contributes not only to the sustainable development of UTAB, but also to the broader social and economic development of Rwanda, in line with the country’s vision for a knowledge-based and digitally driven economy.
