The University of Technology and Arts of Byumba (UTAB) held its 14th Graduation Ceremony on 9 December 2025, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s continued commitment to academic excellence and community-focused education. This major event was preceded by an Advisory Night held on 8 December 2025, where graduating students received final guidance, inspiration, and professional advice from university leaders and invited speakers as they prepared to step into the next phase of their careers.

The graduation ceremony brought together leaders, partners, families, and the broader UTAB community in a momentous celebration of achievement and progress. Distinguished guests included the Governor of the Northern Province, the Mayor of Gicumbi District, UTAB Legal Representative and the Guest of Honor, a representative from the Higher Education Council (HEC). Their presence underscored the strong partnership between UTAB and key national stakeholders working collectively to advance Rwanda’s educational and development goals.

In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Fr. Dr. MUNANA Gilbert, O.P., congratulated the 1,610 graduands for their hard work, perseverance, and dedication throughout their academic journey. He emphasized UTAB’s commitment to maintaining high academic standards, expanding research capacity, and promoting innovative learning approaches that respond to national priorities.

Speaking during the ceremony, the Governor of the Northern Province expressed appreciation for UTAB’s growing impact on the socio-economic development of Gicumbi District. “I want to thank UTAB for its meaningful contribution to the development of Gicumbi,” he stated. He further encouraged the graduands to become active agents of change, saying, “As you leave this institution, go and contribute to the development of our country. Rwanda needs your skills, your integrity, and your commitment.”

The UTAB Legal Representative, Myr MUSENGAMANA Papias, also addressed the graduands, reminding them that professionalism must be grounded in strong ethical values. “As you enter the world of work, remember that beyond your qualifications, it is humanity that defines true service,” he emphasized. “Go and apply humanity more than anything, for it is the foundation of responsible leadership and sustainable development.”

The representative from HEC, Dr. NDIKUBWIMANA Theoneste, commended UTAB for its continuous efforts in strengthening quality assurance, fostering practical skills, and producing graduates who contribute meaningfully to the country’s socio-economic transformation.

The ceremony featured awards for top performers and recognitions for outstanding contributions in research, leadership, and community engagement. Parents and guardians expressed pride in witnessing the academic transformation of their children, while partners reaffirmed their readiness to continue supporting UTAB’s mission.
As UTAB’s 14th Graduation steps into the professional world, the university reiterated its vision of shaping competent, ethical, and innovative graduates who will play a pivotal role in Rwanda’s development agenda. The event not only celebrated academic success but also strengthened UTAB’s longstanding culture of excellence, service, and impact.
