UTAB AND IUCN HAVE LAUNCHED COOPERATION IN FORESTRY LANDSCAPE RESTORATION AND NATURAL RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

UTAB Vice chancellor after signing a MoU with the Country manager of International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) at Kigali

University of Technology and Arts of Byumba (UTAB) has launched cooperation with International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN). The launching event took place in the offices of IUCN at Kigali on 13 January 2020.

IUCN is an international organization with headquarters located at Rue Mauverney 28, 1196, Gland, Switzerland. Its mission is to influence, encourage and assist societies through the world to conserve the integrity and diversity of nature and to ensure that any use of natural resource is equitable and ecologically sustainable.

UTAB and IUCN have agreed to identify projects and activities for joint implementation from time to time through specific agreements in collaboration with UTAB’s Faculty of Agriculture, Environmental Management and Renewable Energy (FAEMRE).

Areas and Activities of Collaboration

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed and specifies that priority will be given to the following:

  1. To collaborate in different research projects ranging from forest, water and natural resource management
  2. To collaborate and work towards strategic research for the benefit of two institutions in particular and for the Rwandan community in general
  3. To promote the sharing of information and knowledge between the two institutions in the interest of the public
  4. To collaborate in students’ training through internship program
  5. To take advantage of libraries, laboratories and other research materials available in the two institutions.
  6. To undertake research projects according to guidelines agreed upon by both UTAB and IUCN.
  7. Joint publication of research findings.
  8. Organizing conferences, seminars and workshops, to disseminate findings for public awareness.
  9. Availing consultancy services as needed to support projects on terms agreeable to both Parties.
  10. Organize Stakeholder workshops, training and strengthen Forest Landscape  Restoration development  forum involving key stakeholders
  11. Identify and undertake advocacy to promote policies and practices which can facilitate the role of small producers in forest and landscape management.

On 4th April 2024,The team from @UTAB_BYUMBA headed by The Vice Chancellor, @MunanaGilbert , met with the team from Beijing Wenhua Online Education Technology Co., Ltd chaired by Dr. Jason Jin, to discuss the terms of the MoU about the introduction of smart Education in UTAB.
