On 22nd August 2025, the University of Technology and Arts of BYUMBA (UTAB) had the honor of hosting Dr. Didace HATUNGIMANA, the Vice Chancellor of Burundi Shining Star University (BSSU), who traveled to Rwanda to lead a thought-provoking conference on “Scientific Research and Economic Development: Rethinking Development Trajectories in Developing Economies.” 2025.

The conference sparked a vital dialogue on the transformative role of scientific research in accelerating socio-economic development within communities in developing countries.

By outlining the importance of research in developing the economy of countries, Dr. Didace corroborated the theme of the conference. He also demonstrated how Rwanda has made gains in research as well as within the region and faulted some of the key challenges that threatened to harm the Research and Development (R&D) lifestyle and proposed on what can be done to address those problems.

The presentation was then followed by a question-and-answer session, where the attendees gave their questions and views concerning the presentation and more generally the Research and Development sector, especially within the UTAB context.

The UTAB Vice Chancellor delivered a final speech officially concluding the event re-reiterating the commitment of the university to offer full support in both developing and enhancing the Research and Development sector as a means of development.
